At Saturday's tournament I experienced something unique - I couldn't lose. I've never in my life had a run of so many good cards. Even when I played a hand that wasn't the best I drew out. Over the course of the night I only lost two hands. One of those hands was a small pot where I was involved only because it was so cheap. The other hand was when the tournament got down to Rodney and I. I had about 20,000 in chips and Rodney had about 2,000. I called his all-in with nothing and lost. On the very next hand I again called his all-in and won. Amazing night. I've never been so lucky. I don't know anyone who wouldn't have won the tournament with the cards I was getting.
At the end of the night Kyle extended his point lead to ~50 points. Tony and Ed are both poised to challenge as they fight it out for control of second place. Nick's leading the third placers, but is about to be challenged by Brad, Chris, Tim, Jack, Rodney and Gil as they're all within striking distance. DJ, Rocky, and Troy are bringing up the rear as they make their move for 4th place.
Troy is in desperate need of a comeback. He used to be a driving force, but as of late has not been a threat. Troy needs to parlay his opponents expectations of his eternal bluffs into profits and wins. Tim has shown extreme skill gaining an average of 12.26 points per tournament and is the favorite to overtake Nick in 3rd. However, Nick and Tim have battled each other in many tournaments and we can expect Nick to put up a good fight. Nick has all the knowledge and moves but hasn't been able to string together enough big pot wins to put him at the top.
Kent's conservative play has left him struggling for points. Should he amp up his aggression he could once again be in contention. Brad was in a similar mode of play but has in recent tournaments been able to incorporate his "super system" readings. If Brad can add a few "moves" to his arsenal he'll be an even bigger threat.
Gil's textbook play has become his Achelles' heel. He's become too easy to read and needs to mix up his play to make the move to the next level. He'll have to leave his comfort zone and bluff - at least once and a while.
Ed has played rock steady and worked his way up the charts. If Tony takes another night off Ed will certainly knock him out of second and start making his move on 1st.
